Holly’s Story: The Happiest Volunteer in Indiana!

By Barbara Cash

As CareStar continues its devotion to serving individuals in the community, I would like to introduce you to a special young woman named Holly for whom we have received the opportunity to provide care.

Holly chose CareStar to provide her case management services in 2008. Holly receives waiver services due to her diagnosis of Spina Bifida.  Since that time we have partnered with her to find quality in-home providers, an apartment that suits her needs, and the necessary services to keep her healthy and happy!

Holly now performs volunteer work, making her very happy and giving her a deep sense of personal satisfaction.  Recently, Holly participated in the annual “Read Across America” for the sixth time!  This event offers volunteers the opportunity to read with students from kindergarten to fifth grade in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Holly believes her elementary school’s Read Across America program is the best in the country!  This event has tremendous success in raising community awareness and benefiting local children who enjoy reading.

Holly has just returned from a trip to St. Louis where she met with volunteers from “Operation Christmas Child.”  This program’s mission is to enhance the Christmas experience for under-privileged children around the world. The program gathers shoeboxes filled with gifts and useful personal supplies to be distributed at Christmas to children around the globe.  Holly says she "loves kiddos" and volunteers at her church by teaching children age two to third grade.  She is always quick to share the rewards of her participation in these activities in order to get others involved!

To add to a growing list of volunteer activities, Holly is working towards attending Indiana University Southeast this fall.  During the application process her case manager worked with Holly to create a “biographical letter” which includes all volunteer efforts Holly has taken on… it’s a long letter!

Throughout all Holly’s challenges, her interaction and volunteer work is supported through her partnership with her case management team at CareStar. This story is another example of our proud accomplishments as we continue to provide home and community-based services to enrich the lives of others.

Do you know anyone who could utilize CareStar of Indiana case management to achieve their goals like Holly?  Contact Barbara Cash at 866.423.2220 or bcash@carestar.com to discuss ways our team can help today!
