RSVP is about helping to make a difference in our community by matching the skills of our members to the needs of our stations. SCM also sponsors Operation SafetyNet (Scioto County’s homeless shelter) and the West End Child Care Center.

RSVP is a national organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults as they transition from one phase of life to another. It is one of three organizations that make up the Senior Corps under the jurisdiction of the Corporation for National and Community Service . Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions are the other two organizations.

Citizen Corps Mission

The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.

Citizen Corps Council activities include:

Educate residents about disaster preparedness measures;

Implement public education and outreach efforts;

Provide training to improve citizen preparedness, prevention and response capabilities;

Promote the importance of drills in the home, workplace, and school;

Coordinate citizen participation in community disaster response activities;

Coordinate volunteer opportunities that support local efforts in mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery

Citizen Corps Council Responsibilities include:

Promote and strengthen the Citizen Corps programs at the community level, such as Volunteers in Police Service programs, CERT teams, Medical Reserve Corps units, and Neighborhood Watch groups;

Provide opportunities for special skills and interests;

Develop targeted outreach for the community, including special needs groups;

Provide opportunities of training in first aid and emergency preparedness;

Organize special projects and community events;

Encourage cooperation and collaboration among community leaders; and

Capture smart practices and report accomplishments; and

Create opportunities for all residents to participate.
