ABOUT SOCIL

SOCIL, a Center for Independent Living, is a consumer controlled, cross disability, non-residential program providing services to Fairfield and Hocking Counties. It is funded in part by the US Department of Education under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. SOCIL promotes a philosophy of self-determination, peer support, self-help and self-advocacy, system advocacy, and equal access to society. SOCIL believes that people with disabilities have the right to choices and opportunities in society that support and maximize their empowerment, inclusion, leadership, independence and full participation in community life. SOCIL offers a wide variety of services, but four are essential in the efforts of people with disabilities to live independently. (For additional services that SOCIL provides, please see our “Services” page on this website.)

Consumers are people who exercise choice and control over their goods or services.

Scenic Hills Senior Center provides high quality programs and services which enable Hocking County's vibrant adults to lead healthy, fulfilling and independent lives.


Self-sufficient seniors are invited to attend our center daily 8-4, Monday through Friday. The center offers a comfortable, friendly atmosphere to spend your day. Activities are open to individuals 55 years of age and older. Available activities are bingo, pool, movies, fellowship, bridge, euchre, computers, exercise equipment, ping-pong, shuffleboard, drama club, shopping, line dancing, chair volleyball and more. Recreational trips include outings to malls, museums, historical sites, plays, extended trips, dinner theater and other exciting places.
















Scenic Hills is a multipurpose senior center located in Logan, with a satellite site in Laurelville. We strive to allow seniors to remain in their own homes with a little help from us. We offer programs such as medical transport, homemaker services, living assistance programs and telephone reassurance/outreach.

Hocking County ( Ohio ) Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is
