The mission of the Family
and Child Abuse Prevention Center is to intervene and educate to
reduce family violence.
CORE VALUES:
- Provide high quality service
- Treat all with dignity and respect
- Foster collaboration
- Embrace change
HISTORY:
The Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center was founded in 1974
by local pediatrician, Dr. Bernard Cullen, and a small group of
concerned citizens, who saw first hand the devastating effects of
child abuse. While child protection and law enforcement agencies
have a crucial role in child protection, our founders had the foresight
to see the need for additional community partners. From the compassion,
dedication, and vision of this small group of people, an organization
has evolved with dedicated professionals who diligently work to
break the cycle of family violence. With offices in Lucas,
Wood
and Ottawa
counties, Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center serves over 20,000
people each year. |

What is the Family Nutrition Program? This
program partners with communities that use gardening as a way to
improve their lives and neighborhoods. Not only is gardening
a satisfying hobby, but it is also a great way to: stretch the food
dollar; eat more fruits and vegetables; and include physical activity
on a daily basis.
Classes teach participants
about nutrition, meal planning, food shopping and food safety. The
target audiences for the program are families with limited resources.
The Family Nutrition Program is sponsored by a grant of the Midwest
Region Food and Consumer Service, United States Department of Agriculture
