Hattie Larlham
is a not-for-profit organization that provides quality care to children
and adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities
(MR/DD). Through residential, respite/private duty home care and
vocational programs, our services not only benefit the individuals
we serve, but also their families, loved ones and surrounding communities.
With our children’s
center in Mantua and 24 group homes throughout Northeast Ohio, Hattie
Larlham’s staff of 750 employees provides quality services
and supports to more than 1,200 people with mental retardation and
developmental disabilities (MR/DD). |

Services Offered
Tri-County addresses specific needs of persons with disabilities who
reside in our three-county service area: (1) information and referral
resources to address inquiries on housing, transportation, housing
modifications, durable medical equipment and benefits, and personal
assistance;
(2) independent living services skills training;
(3) peer support which will allow people with disability to explore
options and solve problems;
(4) community education and technical assistance to eliminate architectural
and attitudinal barriers;
(5) advocacy on an individual or systems level to bring about change
that maximize integration and inclusion.
There are no fees or age
requirements for services which are provided without regard to race,
color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or disability to persons
who reside in Summit, Stark, or Portage Counties |

MISSION
The primary mission of
the Portage County Senior Services Center is to provide socialization
opportunities for all Portage County Senior Citizens without discrimination
on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap
or ancestry. The secondary mission of the Senior Services Center
is to make the community aware of all of the current and future
needs of older Americans. The Center also serves as a human link
between appropriate services and the needs of the individual Senior
citizen. |

With one in
four families experiencing either mental health or substance abuse
problems in today’s world, it’s good to know that Portage County
has quality, affordable services. The good mental health and safety
of children are a priority of the Mental Health & Recovery Board
of Portage County.
The Board oversees a “network
of care for all generations” for Portage County
residents.
- We fund counseling for children and adults who are victims of
domestic violence and abuse.
- Our commitment to healthy youth extends to providing counselors
who assist teachers and guidance counselors in all school systems.
- Our network has services for teens who get into trouble with
alcohol and drugs while we also work hard at preventing substance
abuse by funding education for hundreds of students each year.
- We maintain 24-hour emergency mental health and suicide prevention
services.
The duties of the Mental
Health & Recovery Board of Portage County are set by the state
of Ohio. One of 60 similar boards in the state, the Board's official
title is the Portage County Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and
Mental Health Services.
Under Ohio law, these boards are given responsibility for seeing
that services and
facilities are available locally for the treatment of people with
mental illness
and/or alcohol/drug addiction. |

The Veterans
Service Commission was established for the purpose of assisting
veterans and their dependents who have met with unexpected hardship
as a result of sickness, injury, disease, or lack of employment.
Services Available for
Veterans or Dependents of Veterans
- Emergency Financial Assistance
- Information and guidance in obtaining aid from various federal,
state, and local organizations
- Referrals as required to other agencies for assistance as determined
by counseling
- Assistance in making application for benefits administered by
the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Assistance with dependent's applications for benefits upon the
death of the veteran
- Transportation for eligible veterans to Veterans Administration
Medical Centers.
