Services
The program services offer
a wide range of services aimed to better the life of those people
affected by epilepsy. Our services are offered face-to face, by
telephone or by mail.

- Adults with epilepsy and/or developmental disabilities

from the 13 counties in need of services or information about
epilepsy
What services do we offer?
Information and Referral
Services
- Informational and educational material about epilepsy and related
issues are available upon request
- Reference library with relevant brochures, books, videotapes,
magazines available at the Epilepsy Center
- Referral assistance for individuals and families in locating
additional community resources
Advocacy & Case Management
Services
The Epilepsy Center works
to support the rights of individuals impacted by epilepsy in areas
such as:
- Finding affordable housing
- Finding and keeping employment
- Educational, Medical and Legal issues
We assess the needs of
our clients; assist in planning and implementation of plans; coordinate
services on their behalf and become their voice when necessary.
Prescription and Benefits
Assistance
We link our clients to Patient
Assistance Programs (PAP) offered by Pharmaceutical Pharmacies and
assist them as necessary to apply for Social Security, Medicare
and Medicaid.
Emergency Medication Assistance
Limited loans can be provided
for the purchasing of anticonvulsant medication in an emergency
situation only. The payment is forwarded directly to the pharmacy.
Counseling Services
Counseling is offered to
individuals and/or families and includes epilepsy education. Special
care is taken to identify and help individuals to deal with problems
of acceptance and adjustment to epilepsy.
Some of the common issues
addressed in counseling sessions are:
- Self-esteem
- Anger management
- Stress management
- Depression and anxiety
- Employment counseling
- Improving social skills
- Improving communication
- Enhancing marital and family relationships
- Assertiveness
- Parenting the child with epilepsy-overprotection vs. neglect
- Living well with epilepsy

Treatment
Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) was started in 1972 by the Federal
Government to examine the problems of drug abuse and criminal behavior.
TASC is designed to act as a bridge between the criminal justice
system and the treatment community.
TASC provides
juveniles and adults with an opportunity to receive community-based
treatment as an alternative or supplement to more costly legal sanctions
and procedures.
Drug abstinence, employment
and social personal functioning are monitored closely to hold the
offender accountable and support positive reintegration into the
community. |

Ancillary
Services -These services include
communication, occupational therapy, and health services.
Adult
Activities -Therapeutic activities are provided to individuals with
severe and profound disabilities and multiple handicapping conditions.
The program emphasizes motor development, social skills, self-care
skills, eye-hand coordination, and communication. A secondary focus
is the development of work skills and work habits.
Employment
-Vocational training and work
experience are provided to individuals in a production environment.
Supported
Employment -Experiences are provided
in the community, including: mobile work crews, work enclaves, and
supported community employment. Services include job development,
job coaching and ongoing follow-up assistance.
Life
Enrichment -Leisure activities
are provided for individuals who are 55 or older. Many seniors have
retired from vocational training employment. Seniors are encouraged
to choose from a variety of activities such as cooking, gardening,
exercise and dancing. Seniors frequently participate in activities
at community-based senior centers.
Recreation-
A broad array of recreational
and athletic activities are provided. They include dances, including
dinner dances, bowling, basketball, softball, track, swimming, and
day trips such as Put N Bay and Cedar Point.

Olympics offers a variety of competitive sports to participate in.
